Tornadoes, Hail And Damaging Winds Possible Hazards With GA Storms

A line of storms are forecast to target north and central GA, while Savannah is expected to get its share of rainfall overnight Tuesday.

GEORGIA — The Peach State is bracing for a line of possibly severe storms set to roll in overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

With a 100 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms, the wet weather is forecast to start before 3 a.m. Wednesday in north and central Georgia, including metro Atlanta and Columbus, the National Weather Service predicted in its hazardous weather outlook.

Few tornadoes, large hail and damaging wind gusts are potential hazards with the thunderstorms, weather officials said.

Southwest wind in the metro could climb as high as 30 mph, weather officials said.

The rainfall could pour into the Savannah area before 4 a.m. Wednesday, though rain chances increase throughout the afternoon hours Wednesday, weather officials said.

Early morning, southwest wind in Savannah could reach 10-13 mph before the west wind could rise to an estimated 16-20 mph in the afternoon, weather officials said.

Though the remainder of the week could be clear and sunny, frost could be possible in parts of north Georgia in the morning Thursday-Saturday, weather officials said.

"The potential for frost is highest north of the Interstate 20 corridor," the weather service said in its forecast.

As of around noon Tuesday, the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office predicted the following detailed forecast for metro Atlanta:

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Southwest wind 10-15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3 a.m. Low around 57. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 61. West wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 43. West wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. West wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 39.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 59.

Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 37.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 64.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 39.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 71.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
