Another Round Of Storms Forecast To Pour Into GA

After last week's round of storms, the weather service told Patch the wet pattern Georgia is experiencing is common with an El Niño.

ATLANTA, GA — More rain is expected drop into Georgia this week, according to forecast predictions from the National Weather Service.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms in metro Atlanta are not anticipated until after 3 p.m. Tuesday, when a tenth to a quarter inch of rain could arrive in the area.

Tuesday's storms are not expected to be severe, and the sky should be clear by Wednesday afternoon, weather officials said.

That is, until Friday when heavy rainfall that could potentially cause flooding is predicted in the metro. The rain may not clear until Sunday.

The stormy clouds could roll through Columbus after 1 p.m. Tuesday, dropping raindrops along the way. Mimicking the metro, the Columbus area may not see rainfall again until Friday when thunderstorms are possible.

Then, the rainfall Tuesday is forecast to trickle into Savannah after 10 p.m. and could linger through Wednesday morning before leaving for two days and returning Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures are expected stay warm with highs in the 70s all week, excluding Tuesday, in the Columbus and Savannah areas. Metro Atlanta temperatures will be slightly cooler.

As of around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, the weather service predicted the following forecast for metro Atlanta:

This Afternoon: Showers. High near 65. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 5 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m. Low around 57. East wind 5-10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 5-10 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. North wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.

Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68.

Friday Night: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Saturday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 63.
