Flooded Roads, Rescues Occur After Heavy Rainfall Pours In Metro ATL

METRO ATLANTA — Several areas were threatened by heavy rainfall and flooding Monday, with media outlets reporting few rescues in the metro.

Atlanta News First reported a SUV had to be recovered from a 20-foot embankment near Marietta Road in Atlanta. The vehicle was partially engulfed in a small stream, the outlet reported.

WSB-TV Atlanta reported the driver in this incident was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Additionally, WSB-TV reported a second driver was saved after their vehicle was partially swallowed by water at Jonesboro Road near Interstate 285.

Fairburn saw its share of flooding near Oakley Industrial Boulevard and Spence Road, according to the Fairburn Fire Department.

Dunwoody Police said standing water was the cause of a lane closure on Interstate 285 west at Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

Meanwhile, flooding closed Dallas Mill Road at a bridge suspending over Big Springs Creek between Frost School and Cook roads in Troup County, according to the local sheriff's office.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported early Monday several crashes throughout the metro, including in DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton, Bibb, Coweta, Gwinnett and Clayton counties. Potential injuries are unknown.
