GA Capitol Cleared After Email Hoax Prompts Evacuation

The Georgia Capitol​ has since been cleared after the emailed threat, which appeared to be a part of a nationwide hoax.

ATLANTA, GA — A national emailed threat proven to be a hoax prompted the evacuation of the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Authorities were first notified of the hoax around 2 p.m. About an hour later, operations continued as normal once the GSP gave the all clear, authorities said.

No one was injured, and no property was damaged, the GSP said.

The contents of the email were not revealed, but multiple reports say an alert was sent out to several people at the Capitol.

The Capitol has since been cleared after the threat, which appeared to be a part of a nationwide hoax, the GSP said. Authorities noted the email was sent to multiple states.

The Gold Dome at the Capitol is being worked on absent of the Georgia General Assembly, which remains out of session, 11Alive reported.
