ATLANTA, GA — A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for much of the metro Atlanta area Thursday as forecasters warn of thunderstorms in the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could bring gusty winds and frequent lightning. The chance for rainfall is about 60 percent, the weather service said. Temperatures are expected to hit a high of 88 degrees Thursday.

"Damaging winds will be the main threat which may result in downed trees due to wet soils from previous days rains. Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall will also be possible with any storms today," the weather service said.
