GEORGIA — Parts of central, eastern and coastal Georgia will undergo a heat advisory, starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, as more storms seek to slam the Peach State a day after a tree fell and killed a man.

"Similar to what occurred yesterday, a line of thunderstorms may develop in the evening, possibly persisting into the overnight hours," the National Weather Service said in its hazardous weather outlook.

Tuesday's storms left some without power or wifi, with Georgia Power noting its crews were still working "as quickly as possible" Wednesday to restore power in some areas. The outage map showed hundreds of households remained without power as mid-Wednesday morning.

The extent of the Tuesday's damage was not immediately known; however, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said a tree that fell onto a moving vehicle in Canton killed a 27-year-old man during the storms.

Deputies responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 5000 block of Vaughn Road, where the fatal crash occurred. The man, who was not identified, was found dead inside of the vehicle, authorities said. No one else was inside of the vehicle at the time, authorities said.

Wednesday's Forecast

Damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall could all come with Wednesday's impending storms as Georgia continues another week of daily rain.

But while forecasters predict more thunderstorms statewide, it is the temperature that may prove to be a problem with Georgians.

A widespread heat advisory has been issued for Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Chatham, Cobb, Clarke, Cherokee, DeKalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Hall, Gwinnett, Paulding, Oconee, Fulton, Muscogee, Fayette, Henry, Coweta and several other counties. The advisory is set to expire at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

From central to southeast Georgia, heat index values up to 109 degrees are anticipated though the Savannah area could reach heat indices of 110 degrees, the NWS said.

Residents are urged to stay in air conditioned rooms and remain hydrated, the NWS said.

What's Ahead?

The days storms, some strong to severe, are forecast to keep rolling into Georgia through Tuesday.

These storms could produce gusty damaging winds, frequent lightning, localized flash flooding and heavy rainfall in north and central Georgia.

In Savannah, while it could rain each day, the NWS said heat indices could meet or exceed 108 degrees the remainder of the week and into the weekend.

"Heat advisories will likely be needed for much of the area each day," the NWS said in its hazardous weather outlook.

On Thursday and Friday, small parts of the Savannah area could see heat indices of at least 113 degrees, which the NWS said may trigger excessive heat watches or warnings.
