Rounds Of Showers, Warm Temps Forecast For GA

GEORGIA — Multiple showers are expected to arrive this week in Georgia, starting Wednesday night in metro Atlanta, weather officials said.

The impending showers are not forecast to be severe or come with damaging hazards, said Vaughn Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

"This is actually normal," he told Patch.

Smith said metro Atlanta could expect possibly about an inch of rain in the area.

Anticipated showers could sprinkle down to the Columbus area Friday, then Savannah, according to the forecast.

Shower chances are at their highest Sunday night, after which they are expected clear out and make way for a partly sunny Monday.

High temperatures should linger in the low to mid-80s in coming days before dropping Saturday to the 70s and to the 60s on Sunday.

As of around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service predicted the following detailed forecast for metro Atlanta:

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Southwest wind 5-15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then a slight chance of showers between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Southwest wind 5-10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. West wind around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Friday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.

Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.

Sunday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Sunday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 70.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 75.
