METRO ATLANTA, GA β€” A cold front coming from Tennessee is forecast to bring severe storms into metro Atlanta Thursday afternoon, said Vaughn Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

Smith told Patch the rainy weather is "pretty typical" for Georgia as fronts are consistently passing through the Peach State.

"This is just a strong frontal boundary that’s going to be coming through and bringing severe weather with it," he said.

As of late Wednesday morning, wind gusts were forecast to have a speed of 20-40 mph. However, Smith said winds can go as fast as 60 mph with severe storms. Tornadoes are possible, as well. Hail is not predicted.

Temperatures Thursday should be fairly mild with highs of 60 degrees, near 70 degrees. Once the front passes through, cold air will follow and drop temps to a high of 40 degrees and lows of upper 20s/lower 30s.
