Showers, Thunderstorms Expected To Pour Into GA

Much of the Peach State is expected to see showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday through the weekend and into early next week.

GEORGIA — After a few days of sunshine, Georgia has entered a week of potential rainfall.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout Tuesday in north and central Georgia, with the mid-morning probability lingering around 80 percent for metro Atlanta, according to the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

Strong winds could be associated with these storms, weather officials said.

Rain could pour into the metro before 8 p.m. Tuesday night, then patchy fog is expected after 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to the forecast.

The sky on Wednesday could be foggy then sunny, with the sun expected to shine Thursday before peeking through clouds Friday.

Then, a partly sunny daytime could turn into a stormy Friday night, weather officials predicted. There is a 50 percent chance for thunderstorms both Friday night and Saturday.

The chances decrease through the weekend and Monday; however, showers and thunderstorms are still expected in Georgia.

Rainfall should not be as present in the Savannah area as it is anticipated to be in metro Atlanta. But, the coastal town could get some rainfall Tuesday night and Wednesday.

After a brief period of no rain, showers and possible thunderstorms could return Saturday to Savannah.

The National Weather Service predicted the following detail forecast for metro Atlanta at its latest update:

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 3 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. High near 77. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: A 10 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m. Patchy fog after 4 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 60. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 84. North wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Southeast wind 5-10 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 85.

Friday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65.

Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 79.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82.

Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83.
