  1. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is seeking public assistance in locating an individual for questioning regarding a burglary that occurred on Jul. 2 at the 2500 block of Friar Lane. The homeowner reported that an unidentified man broke into a shed and was taking clothes from it, claiming that someone named Benny gave him permission. A photo of the man captured on the homeowners' video surveillance has been shared, and individuals with information about his identity or whereabouts are urged to contact Dep. Mosquitoes, responsible for an estimated 750,000 global deaths annually, pose a significant threat due to their ability to transmit diseases such as malaria and West Nile virus, according to National Geographic. Experts warn that Augusta may experience a higher mosquito population this summer, and people should take precautions. Factors such as rainfall and high temperatures contribute to ideal breeding conditions, with standing water serving as a breeding ground for thousands of mosquitoes, highlighting the need for vigilant mosquito control measures and removing stagnant water sources. The law mandates that the Department of Public Health establish aquatic safety guidelines by Jan. 1, 2024, and requires all swim instructors in the state to have a safety plan in place by Apr. 1, 2024.
