Investigators Suspect DUI in Deadly Barrow County Crash

One of the two drivers killed in the wreck Saturday was driving the wrong way on Ga. 316.

WINDER, GA β€” Authorities suspect at least one driver in a deadly crash on Hwy. 316 in Barrow County on Saturday may have been under the influence.

Investigators "are working on determining if impairment was a contributing factor in the crash, because it is suspected," Barrow County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Ryan Sears said Wednesday.

Both drivers in the 2:35 a.m. crash were killed.

Barrow County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene of the crash to find both of the cars involved engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff's office.

Aileen Fisk, 39, of Monroe, and Anthony Hawkins, 21, of Bethlehem, were declared dead at the scene.

The crash happened between Hwy. 81 and Carl-Bethlehem Road.

According to the sheriff's office, Fisk was driving a Dodge Charger westbound in one of the highway's eastbound lanes when she struck Hawkins' Nissan Rogue head-on.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Hwy. 316 was shut down until about 5 a.m. in the aftermath of the wreck.
