Suwanee Kroger Earns Grocer's 600th Energy Star Rating, Continuing Sustainability Commitment

The Kroger in Suwanee has earned the Energy Star designation from the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE.

ATLANTA (Nov. 11, 2014) – The Kroger at 3651 Peachtree Parkway in Suwanee has earned the Energy Star designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). It is the 600th location in Kroger’s family of stores to receive the prestigious certification.

Commercial buildings that earn the EPA/DOE Energy Star label must rate in the top 25 percent of facilities in energy efficiency and performance nationally.

“This accomplishment is very exciting for our company, store and associates, because it is tangible evidence of our dedication to running energy efficient facilities.” says Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “Energy management is a critical ingredient in our sustainability initiative. Our commitment to reducing energy and optimizing our operations today translates significantly to our carbon footprint in the future.”

Energy Star was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the Energy Star label can be found on more than 65 different kinds of products, 1.4 million new homes, and 20,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA.

Over the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions with help from Energy Star.
