Officer Shoots Accused Armed Suspect In Brookhaven Home Burglary: Cops

A resident of the Brookhaven home exchanged gunfire with the suspects before they fled the scene and triggered a police chase.

BROOKHAVEN, GA β€” A shootout at a Caldwell Road home led to a police chase and the shooting of a suspect Thursday evening, Brookhaven Police said Friday.

Police responded to a burglary in progress at the 2700 block of Caldwell, where they said a resident of the home exchanged gunfire with the suspects.

Officers found the suspects' vehicle while it was fleeing the area, and when they tried to stop the car, police said the suspects continued to flee.

This sparked a police chase, which ended with the suspects' car wrecked at the intersection of Chamblee Dunwoody Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, police said.

An accused armed suspect confronted officers outside of the car, and an officer shot the suspect, police said. The injured suspect was taken to a local hospital, where they were in critical but stable condition, police said.

No one else was injured in the shooting, police said. Two additional aggravated assault suspects were taken into custody, police said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
