Buckhead and Midtown are among the most expensive, but the region's most exclusive zip code goes to Alpharetta's 30009, with the average rent for an apartment there at $2,272.

The Buckhead zip codes of 30305 and 30309, overlapping Buckhead and Midtown, occupy the second and third spot, with average rents of $2,162 and $2,161, respectively. Midtown's 30363 is No. 4 and is the last zip to exhibit an average rent above the $2,000 mark, $2,128. Sandy Springs' 30342 has the highest annual rent increase at 5.5%.

The most-coveted locations for high-paying jobs and endless opportunities, New York City and California grab the most spots in the top 50 as priciest places to live in the U.S. Out of the 50 most expensive zip codes, 28 are in New York City, with 26 in Manhattan and one each in Queens and Brooklyn.
