CUMMING, GA β€” A Forsyth County man was arrested Wednesday night after deputies say he barricaded himself in a town home, coming out to shoot his gun.

At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to 8005 Pierpoint Lane. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Jason Campbell, 36, was "mentally distressed, intoxicated, threatening suicide, and was armed with a gun," the department said.

During the incident, Campbell left the home several times with the gun aimed at his head and he fired multiple shots inside the home and outside, striking adjacent town homes.

Crisis negotiators were able to build a rapport with Campbell, and eventually he was taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office SWAT team who used a kinetic impact round to apprehend him when he exited the residence holding a handgun, the department said.

Campbell suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital for evaluation. No deputies were injured during the incident. He is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

β€œYesterday was a testament of the skill and dedication of our crisis negotiation and SWAT Teams," Forsyth Sheriff Ron Freeman said. "Their exceptional de-escalation tactics, without a doubt, saved a life. The apprehension of Mr. Campbell was both dangerous and difficult. To accomplish this with only a minor injury proves their professionalism and dedication."
