CUMMING, GA β€” A 40-year-old Cumming man was shot and killed by police after he fired a gun in the direction of a woman at a local residence, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced late last week.

Yonatan Aguilera died after being shot multiple times by a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department deputy around 8:30 p.m. on June 24 at a home located just off of Dahlonega Highway, GBI officials announced.

An investigation determined a woman called 911 asking for help at the scene, which sheriff’s deputies responded to. Upon arriving at the home, officers heard gunshots and were able to locate Aguilera, who GBI officials said pointed a gun in the direction of the woman. Aguilera fired at least one round into the ground in the direction of the woman. A deputy then fired at Aguilera and hit him several times, the GBI reported.
