CUMMING, GA β€” The 24-year-old man who died Thursday after drowning in Lake Lanier was identified Sunday by Forsyth County authorities as Thomas Milner.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said Milner went into the water around 5:30 p.m. Thursday from his family's dock in the 3100 block of Dove Trail and was later heard screaming for help.

Milner had been shocked by electricity, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said.

Forsyth authorities said a family friend tried to get Milner out of the water with a ladder but failed. Neighbors then took a boat over to Milner, and one of them jumped into the water to help him.

Authorities said the neighbor felt a burning sensation, which he recognized as an electric shock. After swimming ashore, the neighbor turned off a power box and returned to the water to pull Milner onto the dock.

Milner's uncle performed CPR until emergency medical crews arrived. Milner died the next day at a hospital.

Milner's death came two days before 61-year-old Tracey Stewart jumped from a stranded boat and drowned 110 feet into Lake Lanier.

Channel 2 News reported Monday Hall County authorities are searching for a 27-year-old man who went missing Saturday in Lake Lanier near Van Pugh Park. According to the outlet, the man went into the water and did not resurface. The search for the man continued early Monday.

The lake goes through Buford, Cumming and Gainesville.
