Mailman Stole Mail, Dumped It In The Woods And Used Drugs: GA Police

Gwinnett County officers found 215 pieces of stolen mail in the postal worker's personal car during a search, police said.

DACULA, GA β€” A U.S. Postal Service mailman is facing charges after police accused him of stealing mail, dumping it in the woods and delivering mail while using illegal drugs.

Undercover officers with the Office of the Inspector General had been watching Marcus Gregory for some time as he dumped mail in the woods near Williams Farm Road and Highway 316, Gwinnett County Police said Monday.

Local police were notified on July 31 of the investigation, which was conducted after people reported not receiving their mail, they said.

Gregory was accused of using illegal drugs in his work vehicle after dumping the mail in the woods.

Police said officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested him. While searching the vehicle, additional illegal drugs and a handgun were found, police said.

Officers searched Gregory's personal vehicle at a local post office, police said, and an additional 215 pieces of stolen mail were found inside of the vehicle.

A search warrant was executed Saturday at Gregory's home and found more mail, police said.

Gregory was charged on suspicion of driving under the influence-drugs, possession of a schedule I narcotic, possession of a firearm during a crime, theft of stolen mail, theft by taking and obstruction, police said. Gregory has been charged with 51 felony warrants and nine misdemeanors warrants, police said.
