Sergeant Retires From Sheriff’s Office After 17 Years

A retirement reception was held in honor of Paulding's Sgt. Cox, Friday, in the jail conference room where he was surrounded by his friends.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA -- A retirement reception was held in honor of Sergeant Dwayne Cox, Friday, in the jail conference room where he was surrounded by his friends, family, and co-workers. Cox began his career in law enforcement with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office on June 4, 2002 and officially retired on June 7.

When he began his career with the Sheriff’s Office, Cox started out as a jailer in the Detention Center. After a short time in the Detention Center he was transferred to the Uniform Patrol Division where he became a P.O.S.T. certified Deputy. Cox worked in the Uniform Patrol Division for many years before eventually transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division. While in the Criminal Investigations Division, he assumed the coveted title of detective and worked several high profile cases.

Cox finished his career back where it began 17 years prior, in the Jail Division. Cox concluded his career as the supervisor of the Inmate Workforce Division where he oversaw the daily operations of the inmates who perform jobs like cutting grass, cleaning trash off of county road right of ways, and cleaning government buildings.

Sheriff Gary Gulledge said, “We will miss Dwayne, I hope he and his family enjoy camping and travel to many of our nations beautiful parks.”

During his tenure as a law enforcement officer, he has seen many changes in the profession. The Sheriff's Office employees wished him a happy and relaxing retirement. Now he will have plenty of time to enjoy life, spend time with his family and go camping.
