Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. Lt. Gary Stanley of the Dalton Fire Department was recognized by the City of Dalton as the city's 2023 Firefighter of the Year on Tuesday, Mar. 28. Stanley has served the community for 24 years and was selected for the honor through a vote by his fellow firefighters. Chief Todd Pangle said, "You may remember him; we recognized him recently (with a certificate of commendation for life-saving heroics after a motor vehicle crash near his home) so this has been a good span of time for Lt. Stanley." (City of Dalton Fire Department via Facebook)
  2. Dalton's new Anglican fellowship will be holding its first service on Sunday, Apr. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites on 934 Market St. Rev. Rick Gillert, who helped to start the church in Dalton, said of choosing the city for the new fellowship, "One reason for Dalton is that we have a church in Chattanooga. ... This is also where I have been serving as [hospice] chaplain, and I had a desire to have a church in this area, so I thought I would help plant one here." (Dalton Daily Citizen)
  3. Dalton Public Schools held the district's first-ever Elementary Soccer Tournament in which all six of Dalton's elementary schools competed. Park Creek School won first place in the co-ed tournament after winning all of their games. (Dalton Public Schools GA via Facebook)
