Here are the top three stories in Dalton today:

  1. Three teams from the Greater Dalton area achieved outstanding results in the 2023 FIRST robotics competition held at the Dalton Convention Center during the weekend. The Fighting Mongooses from the Northwest Georgia College & Career Academy were awarded the Imagery Award for their robot's appearance and team appearance, and finished fourth in the playoff tournament as part of an alliance. The Autonomous Award for the most dependable robot was given to the North Murray High School Mountaineers. The district championship will be held in April, with the chance of qualifying for the world championship if successful. (Dalton Daily Citizen)
  2. A fire occurred at a business in Dalton, and one person was taken to the hospital for treatment. The Whitfield County Fire Department responded to the commercial structure fire, which broke out behind Fire Station Number 1 on Rolland Hills Drive. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. (News Channel 9 ABC)
  3. Michael Kelley, a man from Dalton, has been arrested in connection with a sex trafficking investigation in western Kentucky from January. The investigation revealed that Kelley had taken Marlaa Jackson and a 15-year-old juvenile from St. Louis to McCracken County and had sexual contact with the juvenile. Kelley is currently in custody in Georgia and will be extradited to McCracken County to face formal charges of sodomy third-degree and sexual abuse first-degree. (KFVS 12)

  • The Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library is hosting an Author Fest on Apr. 1, featuring over 30 authors. Among them are Lorelai Watson and Lee T. Lunsford, whose attendance was announced by the library. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the library will be revealing two authors a day leading up to the event.
