Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. In response to a labor dispute between transportation company First Student and its bus drivers, Dalton Public Schools (DPS) faces a shortage of available drivers. The district held a virtual learning day yesterday (Monday, May 15) and will return to in-person instruction for the rest of the week, offering limited transportation to and from the school. Children without access to transport are encouraged to continue virtual learning. (Dalton Public Schools)
  2. The 3rd Annual Civitan Music Festival returns to Burr Park this Saturday, May 20. The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Burr Performing Arts Park, with general admission tickets starting at $25 (children aged 10 and under enter free when accompanied by an adult). Attendees can purchase beer and wine at the venue and can exit and re-enter at their leisure to explore Dalton's downtown. (Explore Georgia)
  3. If you're planning to travel out of state during the week of Memorial Day (May 25-30), AAA suggests leaving early and avoiding the eastbound route from Atlanta to Augusta on Interstate 20. This year's Memorial Day travel is expected to be the third busiest in a decade, with around 42.3 million Americans hitting the road. Due to lower gas prices, long delays are expected — especially in major cities where regular commuters mix with holiday travelers — according to transportation analyst Bob Pishue. (Patch)
