Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. Dalton State College will receive a federal grant of $370,000 through the office of Sen. Jon Ossof (D-GA) which will go towards funding a healthcare training simulator. The simulator is hooked up to a computer in order to provide real-time data as students perform various skills, and the current old simulator at the school is no longer under warranty. Parts to repair the old simulator are difficult to find or would cost about $100,000. The updated technology will help improve the resources offered through the school's program for health professionals, which saw an enrollment increase of 65 percent over the last year. (Local 3 News)
  2. More than 200 children attended the Kids STEM Festival on Thursday, Mar. 23, hosted by the Georgia Northwestern Technical College's Whitfield Murray Campus in Dalton. The free event encouraged children from K-12 schools to engage in STEM-based activities, such as making a lava lamp using common household items and provided educators inspiration for activities to promote STEM learning in their own classrooms. Staff from Georgia Public Broadcasting's PBS Kids division were also in attendance as special guests. (Dalton Daily Citizen)
  3. Alan's Automotive held its ribbon-cutting ceremony this week, and members of the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce attended the ceremony. The new facility on 110 E. Hawthrone St. in Dalton specializes in tires and general maintenance, including diagnostics and brakes. (Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce via Facebook)
