Here are the top three stories in Dalton today:

  1. The Eagle Walk Trail, off Chattanooga Avenue along Mill Creek, will be closed beginning May 10 to make way for construction. A new trail system will be built to connect Haig Mill Lake Park with downtown Dalton is set to begin the first phase which includes paving a 1.1-mile trail along Mill Creek. Paving contractor North Georgia Paving will move on-site to make final preparations for construction, which is expected to take between six and eight months and conclude by the end of 2023.   2. Virginia Ruiz has been named assistant principal for The Dalton Academy starting next school year. Ruiz has diverse experience in education, having served as an ESOL teacher, department chair, and instructional technology coach and media specialist at Dalton High School. The principal of The Dalton Academy, Matt Mederios, is thrilled to have her on board and expects her passion for student-centered initiatives to be an asset to the school.   3. In a show of appreciation for the City of Dalton's charitable spirit, the United Way of Northwest Georgia has recognized the municipality as one of its All-Star Award winners. The award honors Dalton's employees for their dedicated support of charitable causes in the community. The City expressed gratitude for the honor and thanked all members of the community who contribute to making Dalton a thriving place to live, work, and play.
