Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. The Georgia House of Representatives voted on Monday to approve Senate Bill 146, which would require users of electric vehicles to pay by the kilowatt hour when charging their vehicles and would charge a tax of 2.84 cents per kilowatt hour. Currently, owners of electric vehicles pay an annual registration fee of $216 a year, which will continue in addition to the new bill. The bill is a necessary step to ensure the state is eligible to receive $135 in federal funding to establish a charging station network throughout Georgia. (Capitol Beat)
  2. Dalton Public Schools announced that several students from The Dalton Academy and Dalton High School recently won awards at the Georgia High School Association class A literary competition. Aracley Calderon from The Dalton Academy took second place in the argumentative essay category, Sarah Forberger of Dalton High School took second place in the domestic extemporaneous speech category, and Eli Burt of Dalton High School took fourth place in the literary analysis essay category.
