Here are the top three stories today in Dalton:

  1. Whitfield County and a group of county residents are working with Safe Play Solutions for the addition of a playground to Riverbend Park in Dalton. Recreation Director Brian Chastain formed a group of local residents after receiving proposals about the new playground and found this was the best way to give locals a say in what direction the design should take. The design was submitted by Safe Play Solutions and the committee worked with the company to make the most fun but safe playground they could think of. Construction is hoped to begin in August with the project expected to be completed and operational in September. (Local 3 News)
  2. The Dalton Catamounts squeaked by interstate rival Baylor behind another spectacular performance from captain Ezekial Ortiz. The Catamounts won their thirteenth game of the season earlier this week in a 5-4 victory with the go-ahead and game-winning goal coming with just under 14 minutes remaining in the game. Starting the spring season 13-2, the Catamounts said that they hope to continue to learn and grow while retaining the same success. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
  3. The daughter of late U.S. Senator Philip A. Hart of Michigan recently donated $100,000 to the Cross Plaines Community Partner in memory of the late Dalton native Mrs. Oner E. Lee. Lee worked for the Hart family for many years as a "helpmate" for Mrs. Hart to help raise her nine children and manage the house. The donation will be used by the nonprofit to go towards continuing to provide services and resources to children and adults with development challenges. (Dalton Daily Citizen)
