Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. On Friday, Sep. 29, Douglas County residents can head over to the nearby Lithia Springs Senior Center for a drive-thru Food Distribution event. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is only open to Douglas County residents. All items will be first come, first served. (Douglas County Parks & Recreation via Facebook)
  2. The American Red Cross is organizing a blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Douglasville Police Department in the Community Room. Donations will be accepted from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code "CDPD."   3. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is seeking volunteers for their Chili Cook-Off Festival on Oct. 21. Volunteers will assist with various tasks such as setting up, decorating, ticketing, assisting vendors, and sharing information about the Cultural Arts Council.   4. Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has designated parking spots for anyone selling or purchasing an item online through Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, or other similar outlets. For your advanced safety, once parked, call 770-949-5656 to let the DCSF know you are meeting someone. These designated spots are located at the end of the DCSF's parking lot, near the roundabout.   5. For the sixth consecutive year, Georgia public school students have outperformed their national counterparts on the SAT. The Class of 2023 in Georgia's public schools achieved a mean SAT score of 1045, surpassing the national average for public-school students by 42 points, with the national average being 1003.
