DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Need to get rid of some old documents without leaving yourself open to identity theft? Then shred them — at the 2021 Great Douglas County Shredding Day event, slated for May 15 at the county courthouse.

Cars will enter the west entrance of the courthouse parking lot, then be directed to a staging area with four bank-quality shredding trucks, said Douglas County Communications Director Rick Martin.

Residents are encouraged to bring their old tax records, financial reports and old personal documents. All shredding is free, but residents can bring only 10 boxes per vehicle.

The county is “anticipating a heavy turnout because it’s just two days before the May 17th tax deadline,” Martin said. “This is one of the most favorite events our residents tell us, and we are pleased to provide it.”

“This is a great way to protect the environment and help consumers avoid becoming a victim of identity theft,” said Tiffany Stewart-Stanley, executive director of Keep Douglas County Beautiful.
