Gwinnett Officer Injured After Drunk Driver Crashes Into Cruiser

The officer had a head injury but should recover, police said.

DULUTH, GA β€” A Gwinnett County police officer was injured Thursday night after a drunk driver hit her patrol car while she was working a five-car crash on Interstate 85 near Pleasant Hill Road, police said Friday.

The officer had a head injury but should recover, police said.

"Do not drink and drive and obey move over laws. This accident could have been so much worse. Designate a driver or use rideshare if you choose to drink," police said in a statement.

Two other patrol cars, two tow trucks and a state officer were all on the scene with their emergency lights on, and the HOV and left lanes were closed at the time, police said.

The drivers involved in the initial accident, tow truck drivers and other officers were not injured, police said.
