Lionheart opens 2018 with Crossing Delancy

Theatre offers full season of diverse plays

Lionheart Theatre Company, Norcross’ award-winning community theatre has announced its 2018 season. Lionheart has been quality and affordable shows in Gwinnett county for 18 years, with the last 10 in Historic Norcross.

Feb. 15-25, our Valentine Play Crossing Delancey, by Susan Sandler.

Isabel is a modern young woman who lives alone and works in a book shop. When she is not pining after a handsome author, she is visiting her grandmother Bubbe in Manhattan's Lower East Side. This irascible Bubbe and her friend the matchmaker have found a "good catch" for Isabel, whose extremely reluctant to meet Sam, the pickle vendor.

March 30-April 15, Don't Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti, adapted by Robin Hawdon.

Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse while his wife is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along too to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed

May 11-27, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, based on the Mark Twain classic, adapted for the stage by Timothy Mason.

The lovable Tom Sawyer and his pals take us back to the sweet summer days when stern-wheelers commanded the mighty Mississippi, kids fished, teased schoolmates and stole kisses in the schoolyard. From the opening flourish of the fiddle to a closing joyous leap into the Mississippi, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a winning combination of adventure, humor and nostalgia.

July 19-29, A Southern Exposure, by Kelley Kingston-Strayer.

This comedy-drama is set in a small town in present day Kentucky. It is the story of romantic dreamer Callie Hurt who stuns her Bible-thumping grandmother and her two eccentric aunts when she announces that she has fallen in love and is moving to New York to live with her boyfriend.

Sept. 7-23, Rain Maker by N. Richard Nash.

During the Depression era in the Midwest, con man Bill Starbuck acts as a rainmaker and arrives in a drought-ridden rural town in Kansas. He shows up at the door of spinsterish Lizzie Curry and the rest of the Curry clan. As their farm languishes under the devastating drought, Lizzie's family worries about her marriage prospects more than about their dying cattle.

October 11-14, Murder at Weatherfield by Joe Starzyk.

This farcical who-done-it spoofs the style of Agatha Christie. As family members gather at the country estate of Lord Winthrop to learn about the changes in his will, we gradually learn about financial problems, marital issues, and family secrets.

October 26-30, Lionheart’s annual Lawless Spirits Tour

Wander through the streets of Historic Norcross and see the past come to life. Gun fights, bank robberies, family feuds and train wrecks rattle the streets. This guided walking tour is a must for history buffs as well as those who love a good story.

November 7-10, Lionheart’s Fund Raiser, Tony and Tina's Wedding by Nancy Cassaro.

One of the longest running shows in Off Broadway history, this delightful evening seats audience members as the guests at the nuptial celebration of Tony Nunzio and Valentina Vitale in all its tacky and hilarious glory. Following the church service is a reception where the audience joins the wedding party and their bickering families for a pasta dinner, champagne toasts, wedding cake and dancing. Special pricing.

Dec. Miracle on 34th Street, by Valentine Davies adapted by Patricia Di Benedetto Snyder.

Kris Kringle is the personification of good will and holiday spirit. As Macy's holiday Santa, he enchants children and shoppers so completely that he is deemed dangerous by fellow employees who question his competency and plot to ruin him. A small girl's belief in Santa and the magic of the holiday is at stake in a climactic courtroom decision. This hilarious, tender and charming show for the entire family is a Christmas classic.
