LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A young girl is being credited with saving her family from a Laurelton Circle fire late Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 10 p.m. after receiving a call about a car on fire in a home's garage. The fire spreaded from the garage into the home, according to the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

The family was alerted to the fire after a girl heard a popping sound coming from the garage and woke up her parents, fire officials. The family had arrived at the home two hours prior and were going to sleep.

There were no working fire alarms in the house, fire officials said. The family was able to evacuate before firefighters arrived, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental with the car parked in the garage as the origin. The garage suffered heavy fire and smoke damage.

Two adults and three children were displaced due to the fire, but the American Red Cross was not requested for assistance. No medical help was needed, fire officials said.
