Mother, Son Injured In Lawrenceville Shooting; Suspect In Custody

The shooting was determined to be domestic-related as the man was previously in a relationship with the woman, police said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A man is in jail Wednesday after being accused of shooting a mother and her son late Tuesday night at Dayspring Trace, Gwinnett County Police said.

Police charged Terrance Alonzo Washington, 43, in connection with the double shooting of a 44-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son. Police said Washington is currently being held in a Warner Robbins detention center.

Officers responded around 10:30 p.m. to a domestic dispute at the Dayspring home. Police said officers parked their patrol cars a few houses away upon arriving, and as they were walking up to the home, they heard gunshots coming from its driveway.

A man was seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle, police said. Officers rendered aid to the man and woman who were shot as they awaited the response of the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

The mother-son duo is in critical condition and remain in local hospitals, police said. The motive for the shooting was determined to be domestic-related as Washington was previously in a relationship with the woman, police said.

Washington is being charged on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by taking, police said.
