Chicken Truck Crashes On Interstate 85

The wreck happened just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning near Buford.

LAWRENCVILLE, GA — A poultry truck crash on Interstate 85 near Buford snarled traffic early Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews arrived at about 5:10 a.m. to find a flatbed tractor-trailer off the roadway and into the woods. The truck had been traveling on I-85 northbound just north of Hamilton Mill Road.

It was partially on its side and both saddle fuel tanks were torn from the side of the vehicle.

The driver was conscious and was helped out of the cab by firefighters. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville where he was treated for moderate, but not life-threatening, injuries.

There were no chickens on the truck at the time of the wreck.

The truck was carrying empty poultry crates at the time. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported, according to fire officials.

One lane of I-85 was closed Tuesday morning due to fire and police vehicles blocking the roadway.
