The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is observed as a national holiday each year on the third Monday in January. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. The commemoration of MLK Day as a Day of Service is a call to act on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy as we strengthen our community, build bridges, address social problems, and are of service to others.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” In that spirit, consider making a commitment to be of service to others—on MLK Day (Jan. 17 this year) and throughout the year.
