GA Woman Killed By Hammer At Senior Center; Husband Charged: Report

The 81-year-old man was accused of killing his 71-year-old wife at a Gwinnett County senior living facility.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — An 81-year-old accused of killing his wife Tuesday at a Gwinnett County senior living facility hit her in the head with a hammer multiple times, Fox 5 Atlanta reported Thursday.

Richard Hayden hit 71-year-old Grace Hayden in her head with the hammer, causing "severe injuries that resulted in her death," the outlet reported, citing an arrest warrant.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. to the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road facility, where they found Grace Hayden dead inside one of the rooms, police previously said.

Husband Richard Hayden was charged on suspicion of malice murder, aggravated assault and felony murder in connection with her death, police said.

The Haydens were sharing a room at the senior living facility, police said. A motive in the killing has not been released.

Gwinnett County Jail records show Richard Hayden remained incarcerated Thursday.
