Gwinnett Man Who Confronted Officer With Gun Shot By Police: PD

A teenage Lawrenceville girl told authorities her stepfather armed himself with a gun during a dispute with her mother, police said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” A man suffered non-threatening injuries after being accused of arming himself with a gun and confronting an officer who was responding to a dispute Saturday in the 300 block of Foxcroft Road, police said.

Gwinnett County Police said a teenage girl notified authorities around 10:15 a.m. that her stepfather had gotten a gun during an argument with her mother at their home.

Minutes later, an officer responded and could hear arguing coming from the backyard of the home, police said.

The officer was walking up the driveway when he heard a gunshot coming from the backyard, police said. After the officer approached the fence, police said he saw a man holding a gun while standing in the yard.

"The officer gave commands to the suspect to drop the gun. The suspect confronted the officer with the gun. The officer fired his service weapon at the suspect, striking him in the leg," police said in a news release.

Police said the man then dropped the gun, and officers immediately began rendering aid to his injuries.

The man was taken to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries, police said. No one else was injured in the shooting, police said. Possible charges against the man are unknown.
