Ex-Boyfriend Of Slain Pregnant Teen Charged With Murder In Metro ATL

The family of a pregnant teen found her body in a wooded area in Gwinnett, and her 20-year-old ex is facing murder charges, police say.

LOGANVILLE, GA β€” The ex-boyfriend of a pregnant 16-year-old girl found dead last week in a wooded area near a Loganville road is facing murder charges, Gwinnett County Police said Tuesday.

Police said the family of Mia Campos reported finding her body in the wooded area around 1 a.m., July 15, near the 3600 block of Stephens Road.

Campos left home the previous night with an unknown person, police said. When she did not return, police said the family used a cell phone app to locate her body.

Investigators were not able to determine a cause of death at the scene; however, police said an autopsy completed on July 16 showed Campos' manner of death was a homicide.

Police have not said what led to Campos' death or identified a motive.

The next day, police said investigators arrested 20-year-old Jesus Monroy and charged him on suspicion of giving false statements to a police officer in connection with the case.

As of Tuesday, Monroy was additionally charged on suspicion of malice murder, felony murder, feticide and aggravated assault, police said.

Gwinnett County Jail records showed Monroy remained incarcerated without bond Tuesday.
