3 Charged In Nearly 4-Year Disappearance Of Powder Springs Woman

MARIETTA, GA — Three people have been arrested in connection with the October 2019 disappearance of 42-year-old Matilde Gonzalez, Cobb County Police said Monday.

The Powder Springs woman was last reported missing on Oct. 12, 2019, police said. It is unknown when the initial missing report was made, and it is unknown from where Gonzalez went missing.

Police said Gonzalez has not yet been recovered. Little details have been revealed about the case.

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office first began investigating Gonzalez's disappearance before she was last seen on Oct. 11, 2019, in Cobb County, police said.

Authorities suspected foul play in her disappearance, and the Cobb County Police Cold Case Unit eventually took over the investigation. Police did not say if Gonzalez has died.

Authorities executed a search warrant Friday in the 200 block of Indian Trail Drive in Paulding County in partnership with the U.S. Marshal's Southeastern Fugitive Task Force and the Paulding County and Cobb County sheriff's offices.

Police charged Alejandra Castro, 41, Samantha Vasquez, 20, and Abel Castro, 45, in connection with Gonzalez's disappearance, police said.

Castro was charged on suspicion of malice murder, concealing a death and cruelty to children; Vasquez was charged on suspicion of malice murder; and Castro was charged on suspicion of concealing a death and cruelty to children. Only Vasquez had been released from jail as of late Monday morning, according to Cobb County Jail records.
