Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. A Marietta daycare facility was the subject of a bomb threat on Wednesday, Sep. 5. Employees at the Kiddie Kollege daycare worked with the Marietta Police Department to evacuate the building. Lance Smith, the owner of a nearby business, made space in his gym for the children and daycare employees to escape the heat while officers swept the building. After an investigation, it was discovered that the bomb threat was linked to Alisha Moss, a now-former employee of Kiddie Kollege daycare. Moss is facing felony charges of false public alarm and terroristic threats and acts. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. The annual Hellen Ruffin Reading Bowl is coming up in Cobb County, but the educators who volunteer to run the event are concerned about their jobs after a Cobb teacher was fired for a book she read to her students. President of the Cobb County Association of Educators Jeff Hubbard said that teachers who run the bowl are concerned that two books on the event's reading list may run afoul of Georgia's recently enacted House Bill 1084. Hubbard has contacted the district for guidance but has received no instructions for how teachers should proceed, and no reassurance that educators won't face disciplinary action if the books are deemed to be inappropriate. 3. There are lots of great events happening this month down the road at The Battery Atlanta! Upcoming outdoor events include Yoga by Kaiser Permanente and a Farmers Market on the Plaza Green. Throughout the month, Thursdays will feature Girls Night Out specials and activities. Park Bench offers late-night entertainment following Atlanta Braves games, and the Coca-Cola Roxy has a full schedule of concerts. Click the link to learn more. (Metro Atlanta CEO)
