Check Your Route: Cobb Starts Major Road Closures, Projects

The Cobb County Department of Transportation's construction season is underway. Take a look at which projects are kicking things off.

COBB COUNTY, GA — The Cobb County Department of Transportation kicked off its construction season earlier this week since school is out for the summer, with a few large projects and road closures to start.

Cheatham Hill, Willeo and Barnes Mill roads are all closed for major Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects. Here are the details for each, according to Cobb DOT:

Cheatham Hill Road

As part of the Kennesaw Mountain pedestrian improvements project, Cheatham Hill Road between Ward Creek Drive and Cavan Drive closed June 1 to allow for the replacement of a 36-inch water transmission line.

During the closure, traffic will be routed along John Ward Road and Macland Road. John Ward Road has been temporarily re-striped to add dual left-turn-only lanes from John Ward to Macland roads.

The section is slated to reopen Aug. 2.

Willeo Road

Willeo Road between Bywater Trail and Timber Ridge Trail/Lower Roswell Road closed to through traffic June 1 for replacement of the 60-year-old bridge over Willeo Creek. This is a joint project between Cobb DOT and the city of Roswell.

Through traffic will be routed along Timber Ridge Road, Ga. 120/Roswell Road and Willeo Road between Ga. 120/Roswell Road and Riverside Road.

Construction is slated to end Sept. 29.

Barnes Mill Road

Barnes Mill Road closed to through traffic between the intersection of Merritt and Wallace roads to Cedar Bluff Way starting June 1 for water line work. Through traffic will be routed along Wallace Road, North Marietta Parkway/Ga. 120 and Roswell Road/Ga. 120.

Construction is slated to end July 30.
