Cobb Express Lanes To Be Finished By Summer

Drivers will get nearly 30 miles of reversible lanes on I-75 and I-575 to help alleviate Cobb County traffic.

MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County traffic could be getting a little smoother soon. Express lanes on Interstate 75 and Interstate 575 — which have been under construction for years — are set to be completed this summer.

The state Department of Transportation, along with Cobb County, are working on adding 29.7 miles of toll lanes on I-75 from Akers Mill Road to Hickory Grove Road and on I-575 from I-75 to Sixes Road.

With work that started in 2014, two express lanes will be built to the west of existing lanes on I-75, between I-285 and I-575. After that, a single Express lane will be built north to Hickory Grove Road. A single express lane is being added along I-575.

The lanes will be reversible, allowing them to be opened up in whichever direction most traffic is flowing at the time.

According to a news release shared by Cobb County, work crews are in the final stages of construction on the lanes and have begun testing them before opening them to the public.

To use the new lanes, drivers will need a Peach Pass. The passes can be found online, via the Peach Pass GO! mobile app (for Apple or Android devices)or by calling 1-855-PCH-PASS. They also are available at CVS and Walgreen's pharmacies or at a Peach Pass customer service center.
