Cobb County Ends COVID-19 Emergency Order Weeks Early

COBB COUNTY, GA — On Friday, Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid rescinded the second extension of the county's COVID-19 emergency declaration 15 days before it was set to expire.

The action came after Cupid met with public health and health care officials, who said COVID-19 cases are continuing to fall and the impact on local hospitals has lessened as well, according to a news release.

Cupid signed papers Friday afternoon ending the declaration of emergency, effective immediately. The emergency order allowed the county to activate its Emergency Operations Plan and hold some public meetings via teleconference.

The emergency order was first signed in conjunction with a mask mandate in December, then extended in January and February. It was initially set to expire March 19, and the mask mandate was already lifted last Monday.
