ATLANTA, GA — Java Cats Cafe, the cat-filled coffee house and adoption center, closed its Grant Park storefront over the weekend — and the Marietta location is up next, according to multiple news outlets.

Owner Haydn Hilton posted to the company's Instagram announcing the Memorial Drive closure. Hilton operated the cat cafe for five years and will continue working in animal advocacy, What Now Atlanta reported.

Java Cats Cafe's Marietta location is also set to close in the coming months, according to Eater Atlanta, with its last day set for June 1. The building that houses that location was recently acquired, and since the new owners are planning to renovate, they did not offer Hilton an option to renew the lease.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hilton fostered up to 20 cats at each Java Cats location, partnering with no-kill shelter Paws Atlanta to offer cats for adoption, according to Eater. Visitors could sip coffee and snuggle with a cat at the same time, with or without intention to adopt.
