Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Marietta was recently named the most generous city in the country, according to a study by crowdsourcing site GoFundMe. In 2022, over 10,000 Marietta residents made donations between $21 and $50. Local residents were especially generous for causes that involved animals, raising $73,000 last year and funding over 100 animal adoptions. To celebrate this achievement, the City of Marietta and GoFundMe are working together to host a community concert on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Glover Park. This event will include an art exhibit, photo opportunities, giveaways, and more. (Yahoo! News)
  2. Up the road in Kennesaw, a shooting at a high school football game left a 17-year-old student injured. The incident occurred near North Cobb High School on Friday, Aug. 18 around 11:00 p.m. Police received reports of a shooting, and discovered Bruce Mann with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transferred to the hospital for treatment. According to investigators, the shooting occurred in a parking lot across the street from the school. (WSB-TV)
  3. The Cobb International Festival is set to take place this Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Jim Miller Park Event Center. The festival will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will highlight the diversity of cultures and people in Cobb County. This free event will include vendors, a variety of food options, and performances. The kid's zone will feature axe throwing, an obstacle race course, and more.
