Marietta Native, KSU Athlete Lands In Olympic Hammer Throw Finals
Daniel Haugh will represent the Kennesaw State University Owls in the 2021 Olympic hammer throw finals Wednesday.
MARIETTA, GA — Marietta and Kennesaw State University are on an international stage this year, thanks to a standout track and field athlete landing in the hammer throw finals of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Olympian Daniel Haugh, who's from Marietta and is representing the KSU Owls, qualified for the finals of the hammer throw competition Monday. The 26-year-old will compete in the finals Wednesday.
Haugh — the 2019 NCAA champion in hammer throw — was the last of the 12 qualifiers for the finals, finishing fifth in his heat after fouling out the first two tries. He beat the 13th place finisher, Gabriel Kehr of Chile, by less than 1 meter.

“I’ve really just been taking it day by day. Tomorrow is my last practice,” Haugh told 11Alive before the qualifying round Monday. “I try not to overthink a lot, just do what I do.”
Haugh will go third in the final round, according to the Olympics schedule. The finals start at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in Tokyo, or 7:15 a.m. EST.
