  1. The Marietta High School (MHS) Class of 2023 had SAT scores that exceeded both state and national averages. Overall, MHS students had a mean SAT score of 1,052, which is seven points higher than the state average and a whopping 49 points higher than the national average. These scores indicate that the district is recovering from the pandemic and demonstrating high levels of adaptability and resilience. (The Georgia Sun)
  2. In Cobb County, a situation unfolded in the early morning hours of Monday, Sep. 25 as shots were fired inside an apartment complex resulting in a SWAT team response. When police responded to the scene on Franklin Gateway, two people exited the apartment and told officers they were afraid for their safety. Three people remained in the apartment and exited after several hours of negotiating with the SWAT team. One of the women who exited the apartment was identified for her involvement in an earlier hit-and-run incident. The woman and her boyfriend — who fired the shots — were both arrested and police said they will each face multiple charges. (WSB-TV)
  3. Some Cobb County students and their parents are accusing district officials of not being responsive to their concerns. In 2020, some Cobb students petitioned the district to change the name of Wheeler High School, which is named after a Confederate general, and the district declined their request. These students are now speaking out after district officials acquiesced to an outside group to remove books from school library shelves. One Wheeler High School graduate said the situation demonstrates that the board has a "lack of accountability" and a "lack of care for constituents." In a statement, the district said that it is focused on student achievement and "not political games." (Axios)
