MARIETTA, GA — Significant traffic delays are expected along Dallas Highway/Whitlock Avenue near Marietta High School this week as crews work on the area's trail segment of the Kennesaw Mountain Pedestrian Improvements project, the Cobb County Department of Transportation announced Monday.

Delays are mostly expected along the corridor between John Ward Road and Cheatham Hill Drive, with the worst of the delays in the afternoon in the westbound direction, according to the Cobb DOT.

Crews are working in that area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, and road capacity is reduced to one lane during that time. Alternate routes are recommended.

The approximate $14.5 million Kennesaw Mountain Pedestrian Improvements project calls for improvements along Dallas Highway/Whitlock Avenue, as well as Cheatham Hill and Burnt Hickory roads, to construct three multi-use trails that would be separated from the roadway by a grassed strip, curb and gutter, according to a fact sheet from the Cobb DOT.

Work is already occurring on the following roads for this project, funded by the voter-approved 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax fund:
