44 Arrested As Police Halt Street Racing In Midtown And Atlanta
Over the weekend, 44 were arrested by Atlanta police in connection with street racing. Twenty-nine cars were impounded.
MIDTOWN, GA — The Atlanta Police Department, in partnership with several state and local law enforcement partners, conducted a weekend-long operation that resulted in the arrest of 44 people for activities related to illegal street racing. Atlanta police said 114 citations were issued, 29 vehicles were impounded, and four firearms were recovered, including a semi-automatic rifle.
Arrests and citations were issued at several locations throughout the city that have been hotspots for such activity in the past, including interstates and Spring Street in Midtown, said police.
“We pledged to deal with these speeders and reckless drivers who have shown a complete disregard for the safety of others with these dangerous antics,” said Chief Erika Shields in a news release. “This weekend, with the help of our law enforcement partners, we made inroads. We will continue to impound, arrest and seek costly fines for those individuals who choose Atlanta for this senseless behavior.”
Forty-four arrests were made on Saturday and Sunday, according to the police reports.
