Atlanta Humane Society Explores Sale of Howell Mill Site

Selling of property 'has great promise to make an immense impact on animals in Atlanta,' president says.

ATLANTA, GA -- One of West Midtown's most desirable parcels of land may become available, Patch has learned.

The Atlanta Humane Society is exploring the possibility of selling its building at 981 Howell Mill Road, the organization said Friday morning. If sold, the Society said it would build a new facility in the area.

West Midtown is experiencing a construction boom centered around the 10th Street, Marietta Street and Howell Mill Road corridors as several businesses have opened and expanded in recent years.

The Humane Society, which has been at the same location since the 1930s, sits on 2.29 acres of land.

“With this potential property sale comes many great opportunities to advance the welfare of animals and to invest more deeply in our mission within the city of Atlanta,” Cal Morgan, president and CEO at the Atlanta Humane Society, said in the news release. “We are committed to embracing and driving change within our industry, and the potential sale of our Howell Mill property has great promise to make an immense impact on animals in Atlanta.”

The organization said proceeds from any sale would go toward building animal welfare centers around the city as well s a charitable animal hospital.
