Georgia Weather Forecast: A Mostly-Soggy Weekend

Find out when showers and thunderstorms are most likely to roll through metro Atlanta this weekend and what that will do to temperatures.

ATLANTA, GA — Friday in metro Atlanta is expected to start out mostly sunny. After that? Expect things to be rainy for much of this weekend.

A cold front moving from the Tennessee Valley into north Georgia Friday afternoon is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms with it, according to the National Weather Service. "Scattered to numerous" storms are expected Friday evening, most likely after quitting time.

We can expect some strong, gusty winds to come along with those storms, the NWS says.

By late Saturday morning, numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop in the area, continuing into Saturday evening, By Sunday, the storms will be more scattered, but we're still looking at a 40 percent chance of rain then.

The positive side is that the storms will cool things off a bit. After a high of 89 on Friday, we're looking at highs of 84 on both Saturday and Sunday.

New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Showers and thunderstorms likely again Saturday night, mainly before 7 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 20 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. East wind around 10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. Sunday night, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71.
